The St. Joseph Boulevard corridor is comprised of a diverse mix of commercial, residential, office, and institutional and vacant parcels of land. In recent years development along St. Joseph Boulevard has significantly slowed down. The area however is well positioned geographically to again play a more significant role in the community as a live / work / play destination. The area offers a good population base and existing utility and public transit services.
Our firm was retained by IBI Group to act as an Urban Planner for the Heart of Orleans BIA Streetscaping Plan Project. Our responsibilities were to assist with the development of a Community Improvement Plan for St. Joseph Street in Orleans Ottawa. The project was to build on the foundations of the St. Joseph Boulevard Corridor the City of Ottawa prepared from 2003-2008.
Along side with Architect, John Wright, our firm helped facilitate a design charrette with the local community to establish urban design framework to guide the form of development on the street and generate aesthetic improvement ideas to the streetscape. The charrette lead to the completion of a Work Shop Report that highlighted street improvement recommendations for the use of the Heart of Orleans Business Improvement Area (BIA).
